ADVANCED SIV – FLIGHT SAFETY

ADVANCED PARAGLIDER CONTROL. FLY FURTHER AND MORE SAFELY!

WHO IS IT FOR?

This course is for pilots who want to learn how to control the paraglider so that they can fly safely in turbulent conditions (thermic flight) and learn to recognise and control the reactions of their paraglider in any situation.
It is also for pilots who would like to have a go at flight acrobatics. This course is a good base for progressively learning acrobatics

REQUIREMENTS

Pilots must be fully capable of solo flight

DURATION

The normal duration of the course is of 6 flights and 4 days, plus 1 joker day.

GOALS

  • Improve pilotage skills
  • Recognize flight incidences and control the paraglider in turbulent conditions
  • Learn descent manoeuvres
  • Correct handling of flight incidences
  • ADVANCED SIV
  • 790
    per
  • Practical and theoretical training
  • Video analisis
  • 6 flights
  • Self inflatable life jacket
  • Waterproof radio and earphone
  • Liability and medical insurance

PROGRAMBASIC SIV

First day:
17h:Presentation of the course, inspection of the gear, first briefing
Following days:
9h: Start flying at Sant Antoni reservoir
Afternoon: Analysis of flight videos, theory and briefing for the next day
In normal conditions we will perform 6 flights across 3 days (1 reserve day). That means that the course will usually last 4 days.

Inspection of the equipment

The first thing that we will do will be to check that the reserve parachute is well connected and we will perform a basic inspection of the harness. We will do a thorough equipment check in order to detect any failings (often this is the main and most serious problem) such as parachutes that have expired or are the wrong size, etc... Serious mistakes in installation of the equipment are very frequent and they gravely compromise the pilot’s safety.

Flight briefings

We will give details on every manoeuvre that we will perform:

  • Sensations
  • Origin: Incidence? Pilotage error? Utility manoeuvre?
  • Resolution
  • Prevention: Active pilotage
  • Possible consequences
  • Simulation: How we’ll induce the incidence

Flight over water

The part of the course that everyone looks forward to!
In the advanced course we will perform 6 flights in 3 or 4 days, that means 2 or 3 flights per day, not more. The brain needs time to process the information so it’s no use to do too many flights in one day.
On the other hand, in each flight we will have an effective altitude of 800 to 1,000 m, which is practically the double of Annecy, for example.

Curs de parapent - Classes teòriques

Theory classes

In the afternoons, theory:

Post-flight analysis of the videos: we will analyze the flight videos in order to strengthen good choices and correct errors. Debriefing.

Theory: Aerodynamics, new technologies, reserve parachutes, pendular movements, homologation, etc...

ADVANCED SIV COURSE MANOEUVRES

This is the complete program of incidences that we will practice during the course. The course is tailored to each individual pilot. Each incidence will only be practiced if the pilot feels capable and the instructor considers that the pilot is prepared. It is more instructive to focus on learning to control basic incidences instead of trying to induce an incidence in which the pilot could lose control.

  • Brake range
  • Parachutal stall
  • Asymmetric collapse
  • Frontal collapse
  • Pitch control
  • Spirals and Dives
  • Inversions with weight shift
  • Evasive manoeuvres
  • Full stall
  • Spins and negatives
  • Reserve parachute deployment (not compulsory)
